BRYAN WINTERBOTTOM WINS SCRATCH CLASSIC

Congratulations to Bryan Winterbottom for winning the 2009 GCBA Scratch Classic held on December 6th at Poplar Junction Lanes in Highland. Fifty-six (56) bowlers competed in the event. The tournament was highlighted by a 300 game bowled by Jeff Rakers from Trenton.  The top five qualifiers with their five game totals were: (1) Ray Voss (Highland) 1189, (2) Bryan Winterbottom (Lebanon) 1188, (3) Scott Becker (Beckemeyer) 1168, (4) John Bauer (Belleville) 1134, and (5) John Helige (Greenville) 1128. The top five qualifiers then competed in a stepladder finals. In the first match, John Helige defeated John Bauer 230-213. In the second match, John Helige defeated Scott Becker 199-173. In the third match, Bryan Winterbottom defeated John Helige 205-201. And in the final match, Bryan Winterbottom defeated Ray Voss 229-177 to become the Greater Carlyle USBC Bowling Association Scratch Classic Champion. Other bowlers that cashed in the event, but did not make the stepladder finals included: (6) Jeff Voss (Highland) 1110, (7) Jeff Rakers (Trenton) 1092, (7) James Melvin (West Frankfort) 1092, and (9) Calvin Graham (Centralia) 1081. Next year’s GCBA Scratch Classic is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Banks Bowl in Centralia.
